Classes Delayed

Staff and administrators are expected to report at the delayed opening hour indicated in the announcement. Classes scheduled to begin prior to the delayed opening hour will not be held. Students and faculty are expected to meet for classes that are scheduled to begin on or after the hour of campus opening.

Classes Cancelled

Students and faculty do not attend class, but staff and administrators are expected to report to work as on a normal day, and administrative offices will be open.

Note: The cancellation of day classes does not automatically mean that evening or weekend classes and events or activities are also cancelled. When this is the case, every effort will be made to post a separate message before 3 p.m.; however, the rapid change in a situation may require a later cancellation time. Check for periodic updates.

Colleges Closed

All campus operations, including classes, offices, and public events and activities, will not be held. (Please note that NYSTI productions on the Troy Campus are an exception; please contact NYSTI directly at 274-3200 for information about specific events.)

Students, faculty, staff and administrators should not come to campus and should leave campus immediately if the closing occurs during the business day. However, essential personnel (public safety, maintenance, residence hall staff, and housekeeping) are expected to report for their usual shifts and residential dining services will be provided.

Any time classes are cancelled or the campus is closed during the business day, careful attention shall be paid to the impact that departing students and staff will have on the crisis/ emergency which generated the response.

Evacuate Building

A particular building or group of buildings must be evacuated. A building evacuation shall be accomplished by activating a fire alarm, except in those situations where flammable gases may be present in the building being evacuated. In that case, buildings will be evacuated by word of mouth. Evacuees shall move to an area at least 500 feet from the building evacuated, and away from police/fire/emergency workers and equipment. After the building is evacuated, and when safe to do so, the building captain and a PSO, if available, shall check the building to assure that all persons have been evacuated. Evacuated persons shall not return to a building until given permission to do so by Public Safety personnel.

Indoor evacuation points for extended evacuations or during inclimate weather:

Troy Campus

Albany Campus

Meyer Gym

KCC Gymnasium

Robison Gym

UHA Armory Building

Multi-purpose Room

Schacht Fine Arts Center

Bush Memorial Center

Evacuate Campus

The entire campus, including resident students, must be evacuated. Only essential persons, as determined by the CMT, shall be allowed on campus. Resident students shall be notified of the evacuation by Residence Life staff, who shall make every effort to inform the students of the anticipated length of the evacuation.

A campus evacuation shall be ordered only under the most severe circumstances, and only when a determination is reasonably made that resident students are safer off campus than they are on campus. In the event of a campus evacuation, Campus Life staff will determine if alternative housing sites are available or whether students should return to their permanent residences. In the event that students return to permanent residences, Campus Life and Public Safety personnel shall assist to the extent possible in getting students who require public transportation to those sites. Careful consideration shall be given to evacuation routes and routes to a student’s permanent residence so that students are not further endangered during the evacuation process.

Because The Sage Colleges campus has extensive residence and dining facilities it must be anticipated that in the event of a large scale disaster incident, federal state and local disaster/crisis plans may be invoked and require the use of TSC facilities for personnel involved in the incident. In that event, the CMT shall make appropriate decisions as to evacuation, alternate sites, etc.

Crime Watch

If you receive a message with the subject "Crime Watch," it refers to a notice regarding a persistent or continuing threat to personal or campus safety, such as an assailant who was not apprehended, or a pattern of car thefts in the area.
