A curriculum rooted in women's global experiences

Russell Sage College's general education program, WORLD – an acronym for Women Owning Responsibility for Learning and Doing – makes Russell Sage one of the only schools in the country to feature a curriculum grounded in women's experience and women's ways of knowing.

Many students complement their classroom learning with semesters abroad or short-term travel.

Strategic global partnerships include the Sage-SIFT Alliance with the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade; an exchange program for nursing students with Mahidol University in Thailand; and relationships with universities in Spain, China, Mexico and Canada.

A culture that engages students inside and outside the classroom

Russell Sage College is home to the only incubator for nanotechnology and emerging science ventures on a women's college campus.

The Discovery Degree – "Your Bachelor's in Three" – allows exceptional students to enhance almost any major and earn a degree in three years, with interdisciplinary coursework and travel that uses the Hudson River as a laboratory to study history, the arts, and social, political, economic and environmental issues.

The newly-launched Theatre Institute at Sage continues the mission of the New York State Theatre Institute, offering students a full semester of hands-on internship and extensive performance possibilities.  In addition to public performances, the Theatre Institute at Sage hosts thousands of school-age children at morning performances.

Russell Sage has rich traditions – including Little Sisters and Big Sisters, Banner Ceremony, Rally and "battle of the classes" competitions – that continue to flourish and strengthen students' ties to the College and to each other.

Through Russell Sage's extensive internship program, students earn hands-on experience and class credit, while building a highly marketable résumé.

A gorgeous campus – with Victorian brownstones surrounding a modern glass-domed pavilion and hidden courtyards – supply students with a new sitting spot for every study session (or study break!)

Signature Academic Programs

The Biochemistry program at Russell Sage is one of the oldest American Chemical Society-approved programs in the country and has become a model for other colleges.

The college offers the only bachelor's degree programs in the region in Creative Arts in Therapy and in Musical Theatre.

The Childhood Education program at Russell Sage College was the first Capital District education program to achieve national accreditation from the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Sage is the only college offering a Nutrition program within 85 miles.

Sage offers the only four-year Nursing program in the Capital District.
