Plug in to the NetworkStudies have shown that positive female role models and mentors may be the single most important factor in sustaining girls? interest in the sciences. GEMS participants will interact with SMaRT Women at Russell Sage College and mentors from the community, government, and industry. Sage has access to a rich pool of women mentors through its association with the Alliance for Technology and Women, and its own alumnae. Mentors can answer questions about college life, majors in the relevant disciplines, and careers in technology related fields. Mentors may communicate with students as ?e-mail pals,? bring them on-the-job, or host them at professional meetings. Students and mentors alike benefit from these networking skills and relationships. |
