For parents of incoming and current Russell Sage College students.
Office of the Dean of Students
[Mike's Picture for Family Page]Dear Families:
On behalf of the entire campus community, I am proud to welcome the incoming class of 2016 to Russell Sage College! As your daughter starts this new chapter in her life, we hope she will look at it as an opportunity to learn, to reflect on new ideas, to meet new and diverse people, and to expand new horizons. Our community has much to offer your student: excellent academic programs, co-curricular activities with social and learning opportunities, an historic campus, outstanding traditions, and excellent faculty, staff, and student body. We expect that your student is both nervous and excited about starting their college career. We at the College will do our best to help ease their transition and to provide them, and you, with the resources necessary to start off on the right foot.
A major milestone is about to occur for both you and your student--new beginnings for the first year of college. Your student will soon be busy packing, saying good-bye to friends and family, worrying about meeting her roommate(s), purchasing textbooks, finding her way around campus, etc. You will be planning for home life without your student--one less at the dinner table, what to do with your daughter's room, how to stop missing your student, etc. You will be worried about your student as she gains new independence and faces new responsibilities on campus. These are very natural feelings. If you attended summer orientation, you heard that, "It's time to let go." This is not easy, but rest assured that the College will welcome your student to campus and be here to support her in this new phase of life.
It is not long until Family Weekend occurs on campus. We encourage parents and family to visit over a special weekend of activities. Mark your calendars for the weekend of September 28-30. Information about this exciting weekend is available by clicking here.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact the Dean of Students Office with any questions or concerns. Our number is 518-244-2207. My e-mail address is deanofstudents@sage.edu.
With warm regards,
Michael R. Baumgardner
Associate Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students
