Room Selection for Returning Students

We are excited that you are planning to live on campus at Russell Sage College and welcome you. The residence halls at Russell Sage College provide a unique on-campus living opportunity. Each hall is completely different and the halls vary from traditional-style halls to lovely brownstone houses to suite-style rooms with semi-private baths.
Residence halls are more than places to live! It is by living in a residence community that you have the chance to begin to learn more about yourself and what you can become. By living on campus, you experience college life through a variety of social events, educational programs that support the academic mission on campus, late night discussions in the hall lounges with roommates and neighbors, and late night pizza breaks! The friends you make living in the residence halls at Russell Sage College will be friends you will have for a lifetime.
The college residence policy requires that all full-time undergraduate students live in campus residence halls. Seniors have the option to request to live off campus in an apartment or house. A student with senior or rising senior status who wants to live off-campus must complete the Off-Campus application, which can be picked up at the Residence Life office. Since there is a residency requirement, a $200 contract breakage fee is assessed if the student does not remain living on campus for the full year.
Part-time students (i.e., those students carrying fewer than 12 credits each semester and less than a total of 24 credits for the year) also have the option to live in residence hall space. If you are a part-time student interested in living on campus, please submit a written request to the Dean of Residence.
The undergraduate residence policy supports the Residence Life philosophy. Both provide for a living situation that complements the educational task of the college and encourages positive approaches to community responsibility and personal relations. In order to be successful academically, you must be comfortable where you live. The Office of Residence Life is committed to providing a safe, clean, and diverse living community for all residents.

Room Selection Information for 2013-2014
All lottery numbers for Room Selection are randomly generated by an electronic system. Lottery numbers will be available starting April 8, 2013, from the Office of Residence Life (Cowee Hall 206). Students must bring their lottery card, completed housing contract, meal plan form, and Sage ID to Room Selection in order to participate.
If a student cannot attend Room Selection, a proxy can be chosen by completing the Proxy Statement on the back of the lottery card.
Room Selection is based on the student's class standing. The lottery numbers are randomly scrambled inside each class standing. Rising seniors choose rooms first, then rising juniors, then rising sophomores. The student must have achieved the appropriate number of credits (anticipated) by the end of the Spring 2013 semester in order to choose with that class. No exceptions will be made for any reason.
Single rooms cost more than double/ triple rooms.
Students must have paid their college bill in order to participate in Room Selection. Students with a hold on their account will not be eligible to select a room.

April 8 - Lottery numbers available starting this week. Pick up the lottery card, housing contract, and meal plan form from the Residence Life office if you plan to choose a room.
April 9 - Applications due for Special Interest housing in International (French) House, Spanish House, and Wool House; Special Circumstance; Off-campus/ commuter
April 17 - Room Selection
Special Interest housing (Approval required; come to the Residence Life office, Cowee 206)
3:00 pm - International (French) House
3:30 pm - Spanish House
4:00 pm - Wool (Honors) House
Room Selection Night (general). Meet in the Cowee Hall 4th floor conference room.
6:00 pm ...Rising Seniors (87 or more credits completed May 2013)
6:45 pm ...Rising Juniors (54-86 credits completed May 2013)
7:30 pm ...Rising Sophomores (24-53 credits completed May 2013)
Are you a rising senior student who wants to live off campus?
If you are a senior or rising senior student interested in living off campus, you must complete an Off-Campus Application, available in the Office of Residence Life in Cowee Hall 206 or by clicking here.
Only students who have rising senior status (87 or more credits completed May 2013) are eligible to live off campus. The form needs to be submitted by April 9, 2013.
There is a different application for residents who are first-year students, sophomores, or juniors who want to change to a commuter. That application also needs to be submitted by April 9, 2013, and is available from the Residence Life office or by clicking here.
Special Interest Housing Information
Students who want to live in International (French) House, Spanish House, or Wool (Honors) House need to complete and submit an application for that house. Applications are due April 9, 2013. Applications are available from the Residence Life office or by clicking below on the appropriate house.
Special Circumstance Housing
Students who have a special circumstance which would require special housing arrangements (i.e. medical needs, religious needs, etc.) must apply for this housing option before Room Selection occurs. Please submit the Special Circumstance application by April 9, 2013. Applications are available from the Office of Residence Life or by clicking here.
The application must include appropriate documentation (explained clearly in the application). Special Circumstance housing is not guaranteed, but the Dean of Residence will review each application carefully. If a student is granted Special Circumstance housing, the Office of Residence Life will make the room selection based on the needs of the student. The student will then be notified of the assigned room.
Floor plans for all halls will be available on Moodle in the class "TSC Room Selection". Residents will be able to look at residence hall floor plans to assist them in selecting a room. The floor plans are not to scale, and the available rooms are subject to change.
