Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the next Dean of Sage College of Albany will work with the President of The Sage Colleges, the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff to advance Sage College of Albany as an institution recognized by internal and external audiences as an integrated living/learning community that prepares its graduates with the intellectual and professional skills necessary to thrive in the workforce and/or pursue further study. The Dean will lead SCA as it solidifies its identity as an innovative four-year academic institution emphasizing applied studies; expand its varsity sports program; and revitalize an alumni relations program.

Sage College of Albany has particular strengths in the visual arts, communications, business, computer science, applied and clinical biology, and the liberal arts. True to its practical, market-oriented philosophy, SCA recently instituted an i.Think approach to learning. Inspired by Stanford University's concept of Design Thinking, i.Think is a multidisciplinary approach to project-starting and problem-solving, combining cutting-edge technology and old-fashion brainstorming, for an interactive and innovative working and learning environment. This signature program consists of a series of experiential, hands-on, minds-on, team-based projects whose problem-solving objectives help facilitate a synthesis of left brain/right brain thinking to produce creative, innovative strategic thinkers with critical analysis and communication skills. Important dimensions of the SCA academic experience are the Service Learning and Companion Discipline Programs which inspire i.Think in its practical application. In addition, students have access to master's degree programs through Sage Graduate School and can easily accelerate any bachelor's degree program into most of twenty programs on the graduate level, recognizing that in many fields today a bachelor's degree is not the final credential.

SCA's student body is comprised of traditional -- residential and commuter -- college students as well as returning adults. Some 1,400 full- and part-time students can complete a degree through a flexible schedule of traditional, online, and hybrid courses. More than 100 articulation agreements allow students from regional community colleges to transfer to SCA easily, and a program known as Sage After Work is dedicated to students who are completing bachelor's degrees while working full time.

Located in the heart of New York's capital city and Tech Valley, SCA is a 15-acre oasis in Albany's University Heights neighborhood, which is home to The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Albany Medical College, and Albany Law School. The contiguous campuses participate in academic collaborations, including several innovative 3+3 programs. In addition, SCA shares the central student center, with dining facilities and a multi-campus bookstore, as well as services such as public safety.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in higher education, within the independent and/or public sector. This individual must resonate with the mission and values of The Sage Colleges and Sage College of Albany and exhibit strength of character and an entrepreneurial spirit. This person must have a proven ability to relate to multiple constituencies, communicate effectively; and raise funds. The Dean will be expected to be a visible, active ambassador for Sage College of Albany within New York's Capital District, Tech Valley and beyond. Executive experience is valued; teaching, research and a terminal degree are required.
