New Student Advising Checklist

  • New SCA enrolled day students (deposited) will be pre-scheduled for their Fall 2012 classes after June 6, 2012 by the Academic Advising office. 
  • New student classes are selected based on recommendations from the faculty.  Minimum of 15 credits per term is recommended.
  • Schedules will be inputted based on the students' deposit date.
  • New students will obtain their class schedules at the summer Academic Planning Session.  Students may request changes to their schedules at these events.
  • Fall 2012 classes begin: Monday, August 27, 2012.

Log-in to SageAdvisor and explore Student Menu options (your on-line academic record).
-Review your academic Program Evaluation report available on June 6, 2012.
In SageAdvisor, complete financial aid and student loan section in SageSense. Be sure to complete all SageSense tasks
Review your transfer credit report in SageAdvisor to be sure all credits are listed. If needed, send final updated official transcripts & AP scores, etc., to Admission Office
Refer to the Academic Advising Office webpages, lots of great info
Research your major and degree requirements in the Catalog;
Attend a New Student Academic Planning Session - click here for dates
Accept or decline: college Health Insurance coverage. **A fee is automatically charged to all full-time day students, unless, the proper waiver and proof of current health insurance is submitted.

Residence Hall students complete & return: housing contract, roommate information survey and meal plan selection forms
Pay outstanding tuition bill or "out of pocket" owed amount by tuition due date. Not sure what you owe?  Call Student Services ASAP, (518) 292-1781
Research book costs in SageAdvisor - My Class Schedule link or through the bookstore website.
Set aside money for books & supplies (approx $400-$500 per term).
If needed, request financial aid money for books. Check with Financial Aid Office, 292-1781, if you have enough financial aid to cover books and supplies.
Complete physical & immunization forms - send to Wellness Center
Sign up for, MyCruiserAlert, Sage's emergency alert & snow closing system sent to cellphone
Log-in to Moodle - Sage's online course system.  *Also used as a teaching "support" tool for regular classes that meet in the classroom.
SCA Freshmen Students:  Complete Compass Assessment test (Reading, Writing and Mathematics).
Read the Student Conduct Code in the Student Handbook.  Important information on campus policies including cheating and plagiarism.
Attend New Student Orientation program.  Contact Office of Student Life for more information, 518-292-1753.
View your tuition bill in SageAdvisor using the "Access/Pay Your Account" link.
On Sunday, August 26:  review your fall 2012 schedule on the My Class Schedule link in SageAdvisor (log-in) to be sure you are in the correct number of credits (recommended: 15 credits per term) and for final classroom locations
Fall 2012 classes begin:
Monday, August 27, 2012. Attend ALL first and second class meeting times ~ be sure to be on time or you may lose your spot.
Complete buying all assigned books and art supplies
Contact your Faculty Advisor if you have concerns about your classes or if you wish to make schedule changes.
Add/Drop deadline for Fall 2012 is: September 4, 2012 at 11:59pm.  After this date, course withdrawals must be done in person using the Registration Change (add/drop) form.
