Admission Procedures

Admission to Sage College of Albany is determined by a variety of factors: your academic record, accomplishments, co-curricular activities, motivation, creativity and your personal and professional goals.

Applications for admission to Sage College of Albany are considered on a rolling basis beginning in November each year and continuing through the following summer. Admission decisions are generally communicated within one month of receipt of all required documents. Please note, some programs have different priority application due dates. Recommended: applications should be submitted before August 1 for the fall term and December 15 for the spring term.

How to Apply for Admission

Students applying to Sage College of Albany must submit:

  • An official high school transcript or official GED Scores.
  • A copy of either SAT I Test Scores or ACT Test Scores. Students who graduated from high school more than five years ago do not need to submit SAT or ACT Test Scores. Transfer students do not need to submit test scores if they have successfully completed a minimum of 15 college credits.
  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor.
  • Applicants to any of the art programs must have a portfolio review by a member of the art faculty. Please see information below.
  • A personal essay with a minimum of 250 words
  • A list of extracurricular activities will provide additional information to the admission committee. It is strongly recommended that each applicant submit additional material to support his/her candidacy.
  • A personal interview while not required is highly recommended. It is an excellent opportunity to tour campus and provide us with more information to strengthen your application to the College.
  • Transfer Students must also submit an official transcript from each post-secondary institution attended (college, university, technical, etc.).

Portfolio Review

For students interested in any of our Visual Arts programs, a portfolio review and meeting with an art faculty member is required as part of the admission/acceptance process. REQUIREMENTS

First Year Students

For incoming freshmen, a minimum of 16 high school units is recommended -- 4 English, 4 social studies, 3 natural sciences, 3 mathematics and 2 other academic subjects. Some of our academic programs (e.g., fine arts, biology) require additional courses and demonstrated ability in specific areas.

Transfer Students

Transfer students must demonstrate an ability to successfully complete college level work, generally a 2.5 or higher GPA is required. Each transfer application will be evaluated on the desired academic major program. Official transfer credit evaluations will be sent after a student is accepted for admission. Sage College of Albany admits candidates on a rolling basis, with priority given to applications submitted by August 1 for the fall term and December 15 for the spring term.

Early Admission Program

Highly qualified high school juniors or seniors can complete high school graduation requirements while beginning college study. An application, all supporting materials, along with information regarding current progress toward their high school degree and written approval from their high school Principal or Director of Guidance must be submitted to the Sage's Admission Office. An interview with the Director of Admission is also required.

Re-Admission or Re-enrollment

Students seeking to return to their studies at Sage College of Albany begin the process by completing an admission application (ON-LINE or paper, fee waived). Students who left the college in good academic standing will be contacted by the Office of Admission regarding next steps. Students who were suspended or who have made special arrangements for a Leave of Absence, should contact the Office of the Dean, (518) 292-1704 and/or the Office of Campus Life (518) 292-1753 on how to proceed with their re-enrollment.

Higher Education Opportunity Program

The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) is designed to provide academic and financial support to qualified New York State students. If you have the ability, motivation, and potential to succeed in college, the HEOP at SCA may be for you. In addition to providing funds to assist you with your tuition, housing, meals, books, and other expenses, HEOP will provide counseling, tutoring, developmental and supplemental instruction to support and strengthen your academic work. International Students

International students interested in applying to Sage must submit an application for admission directly to the Office of Admission along with official academic credentials from all institutions they have attended. In addition, students are expected to submit a letter of recommendation, and official TOEFL scores for applicants whose native language is not English. Proof of financial support is required by completing the Sage College of Albany International Financial Statement to verify that the applicant has access to sufficient financial resources to attend the college. Financial assistance is not available to international students.
