SCA Internship Courses

Most internship courses at Sage College of Albany grant 3 credits for 135 student work hours. Internships are supervised by a faculty member in your major. Students must receive in advance the approval of their Faculty Advisor and academic department for credit bearing internships.

College policy: students who have completed a minimum of 45 total credits and an overall grade point average of 2.00 or higher and 2.20 or higher in the major are eligible. New students must have successfully completed at least 3 credits at Sage. Note: some departments have specific eligibility requirements. If you are not sure what the internship requirements are in your major, consult with your faculty advisor.

SCA COURSES


ACC 327: Internship in Accounting, 3 credits
A supervised learning work experience in the field of accounting. Internships are arranged through the departmental internship coordinator. Prerequisite: ACC 204 or permission of instructor.

ART 216: Fine Art Internship, 3 credits
Through supervised practical experience in fine arts fields such as gallery and museum management, art therapy, art education and studio apprenticeship, the Fine Arts Internship will provide students with selected opportunities to explore and participate in the creative and technical aspects of learning about all facets of these fields.

BUS 327: This Internship in Business I, 3 credits
The internship provides the student the opportunity to gain additional learning in his/her academic major. Faculty coordinators work closely with the intern and the employer to assist the student in achieving specific learning objectives. Approval from the appropriate college coordinator is required. Pre-req: Sophomore status and 2.5 cumulative GPA

BUS 328: Internship for Business II, 3 credits
This internship is designed to offer students an additional opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom learning and on-the-job experience. A different internship site (from BUS 327) must be selected in order to provide an opportunity for expanding current skills and knowledge or learning new ones through experiences that were unavailable at the previous work site. Approval from the appropriate college coordinator is required. Pre-req: BUS 327 (with a grade of B or better) and a minimum cum GPA of 2.5

COM 327: Internship in Communications, 3 credits
Through supervised practical experience in selected departments of local news settings, public relations and/or advertising agencies, the internship will provide students with opportunities to explore, and participate in, the planning and preparation of appropriate public relations materials and events or in the preparation of news items for publication or broadcast. Students will spend at least 100 hours in the internship. The schedule will vary according to the placement situation. Pre-req: COM 110, 121, 125, 126, 201 and 221

CSI 216: Internship in Computer Information Systems, 3 credits
This course will provide students with an opportunity to utilize their knowledge and skills on an individual assignment to selected participating business and human service agencies which utilize microcomputers and related technology. It provides a student with a realistic viewpoint of the computer information systems profession through actual work experience with qualified and knowledgeable professionals. Students gain experience in computer programming, computer and systems operations. Students will be required to present reports detailing their activities, observations, and reactions to their field assignment. Pre-req: Only SCA students with sophomore status and a 2.5 GPA

CSI 407: Computer Science Internship, 1-9 credits
An applications oriented work experience in a nonacademic setting in computer science, this course is open to junior and senior computer science and computer science management majors only. Pre-req: Junior and senior computer science majors only

CSI 485: LAN Administration Internship, 3 credits
Part instruction (builds on the theoretical material presented in CSI 276 and CSI 285), and some hands-on experience in managing and supporting technology labs and classrooms. Also includes assimilation, back-ups, installation of software and hardware, staff training, purchasing and planning, etc. Pre-req: CSI 421 and CSI 285.

CRM 307: Criminal Justice Internship, 1-15 credits
Students will be placed in local criminal justice agencies for 150 hours of actual field experience. Written reports documenting an understanding of agency history, organization, and operation are an integral part of the experience. Pre-req: Permission of instructor and junior or senior standing

Students will be placed in local criminal justice agencies for 150 hours of actual field experience. Written reports documenting an understanding of agency history, organization, and operation are an integral part of the experience. Prerequisite: Junior or Senior standing. 54 Credits.

ECO 327: Economics Internship, 3 credits
A supervised learning work experience in the field of economics. Internships are arranged through the department. Pre-req: Junior standing.

GDN 216: Graphic Design Professional Internship, 3 credits
Work experience in the field for better understanding of the learned principles in graphic design. There will be scheduled meetings between student and instructor as well as on-site visits by the instructor through the semester. Pre-req: SCA student with sophomore status and permission of instructor

GDN 427: Graphic Design Internship, 3 credits
Work experience in the field for better understanding of the learned principles in graphic design. There will be scheduled meetings between student and instructor as well as on-site visits by the instructor through the semester. Pre-req: BFA majors only.

HIS 216: Professional Internship in History, 3 credits
Exploration of a selected area of history through supervised practical experience in an appropriate job or volunteer position in the community. A minimum of 6 hours per week will be devoted to the work experience. Pre-req: Sophomore standing and 6 credits of history.

HUM 216: Internship in Humanities, 3 credits
Through supervised, practical experience in selected settings, students will be provided with opportunities to explore, and participate in, the creative and technical aspects of additional learning in their academic major. Faculty coordinators will work closely with the intern and the employer to assist the student in achieving specific learning objectives. Students will spend at least 100 clock hours in the internship; the schedule will vary according to the placement situation.

HUM 341: Hum Applied: Exper Learning
Experiential learning provides opportunities for students to apply their cumulative academic knowledge and skills in humanities to the world of work, while receiving structure and guidance from both academic and worksite supervisors. The student seeks out a particular learning experience through an internship or community service project then with the help of the academic supervisor and a Career Services advisor, sets goals and makes arrangements for the semester's work. All internship and service projects must receive prior approval from the Humanities supervisor. The student will keep a daily journal of experiences, complete all written work assigned by the academic supervisor, complete 100 clock hours of on-site work or externally supervised week, and make written and oral presentations at the end of the learning experience. The student will meet with the class/ academic supervisor on a regular basis to discuss plans, problems, and progress. During the term the student will design a resume and an electronic portfolio. Prerequisite: 54 Credits

IND 216: Interior Design Internship, 3 credits
Work experience in the field for better understanding of the learned principles of interior design. Students will work 6 hours a week for a total of 78 hours in the semester. Upon completion of the internship there will be a presentation by students and an evaluation. Pre-req: Completion of 15 credits of IND courses.

IND 402: Interior Design Internship, 3 credits
BFA majors only.

LAW 227: Field Internship in Legal Studies, 3 credits
The legal assistant receives on the job training by spending 10 to 12 hours per week with a law firm, government agency, or other organization using paralegals. Pre-req: Permission of the Legal Studies program coordinator.

LAW 427: Field Internship in Law, 3 credits
Paralegal field internship will be offered during the spring semester of the fourth year of the program. A minimum of 10 hours per week will be required. The student will be placed with a sponsoring law firm, government agency, the legislature, or some other approved sponsor to be involved in paralegal activities. The student will be required to submit a detailed journal concerning the internship experience and institutional training. Placement and supervision will be through the program coordinator. In addition to the journal, the internships sponsor will also be requested to evaluate the student in regard to the students performance of paralegal tasks. Pre-req: Permission of the Legal Studies program coordinator.

MAT 407: Mathematics Internship, 3-9 credits
An internship involving an application of mathematics may be arranged with a local business or governmental agency. Student initiative in planning such an experience is encouraged, with a faculty member serving as advisor to the student and liaison with the employer. This opportunity is distinct from student teaching, which is required in teacher certification programs and arranged by the education division.

PSC 216: Professional Internship in Political Science, 3 Credits
Exploration of a selected area in political science through supervised practical experience in an appropriate job or volunteer position in the community. A minimum of six hours per week will be devoted to the work experience. Pre-req: Students with sophomore standing and 6 hours of political science.

PSC 307: Internship in Politics and Government, 1-15 credits
Internships may be taken in local, state, national and international government and political institutions. Possible placements include the New York State Legislature and the US Congress. Emphasis is placed, however, on suiting the students individual needs and interests. The experience provides an opportunity to learn by participation in the political process. Pre-req: Students with junior standing and 6 or more hours of political science courses, or permission of instructor.

PSY 216: Professional Internship in Psychology, 3 credits
Exploration of a selected area in psychology through supervised practical experience in an appropriate job or volunteer position in the community. A minimum of six hours per week will be devoted to the work experience. SCA students with sophomore standing and 6 hours of psychology

PSY 407: Psychology Internship, 3 credits
This field work experience involves working under the supervision of a psychologist in a mental health facility, observing and participating in testing and diagnosis, case conferences, therapy, and other related activities. Pre-req: For senior psychology majors with permission of instructor

SCL 216: Professional Internship in Sociology, 3 credits
Exploration of a selected area in sociology through supervised practical experience in an appropriate job or volunteer position in the community. A minimum of six hours per week will be devoted to the work experience. Pre-req: Student with sophomore standing and 6 hours of Sociology

SCL 427: Sociology Internship, 1-15 credits
A professionally supervised field work experience in a community agency for both majors and non-majors. Pre-req: Two courses in sociology and permission of instructor
