Nutrition Services Duties: (please note: these services can only be provided by an appropriately credentialled and experienced Registered Dietitian (RD)

• Provide individual, confidential, and comprehensive nutrition assessment, instruction, and follow-up care for students of Russell Sage College, Sage Albany Campus, and Sage Graduate School. The RD travels to see students on the Albany Campus as needed, usually one day per month. Nutrition related issues that may be addressed include: weight management, eating disorders, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, food allergies, food/drug interaction, sports nutrition, vegetarian nutrition, nutrition for specific disease states such as cystic fibrosis, (or other issues per client request).

The comprehensive nutrition assessment will include:
1. Reason for nutrition consult
2. Weight history
3. Diet history
4. Social history
5. Allergy history
6. Psychological history
7. Pertinent medical/surgical/medication history, including use of vitamin/mineral/herbal/dietary supplements
8. Review of available/pertinent laboratory values (blood/urine)
9. Assessment of current nutritional status/estimated nutritional needs
10. Instruction provided to students as needed
11. Communication (with the student’s permission) to other members of the Wellness Center Staff (for example, the Nurse Practioner) or to the student’s private physician as needed to request or convey pertinent information
12. Other pertinent information as needed
13. Follow-up visits as indicated and/or as per client request – some clients may need nutrition intervention on an ongoing basis

Other Registered Dietitian or Health Educator Tasks:

• Create/revise educational materials for nutrition or health education topics such as National Nutrition Month, Eating Disorders Week, National Diabetes Month, Depression, Antidepressant medications, or others as needed.

• Provide nutrition/health education services at special events on campus such as at Health Fairs, The Stress Free Zone, Promotion of Nutrition/Health Education at the Wellness Center via creation/distribution of flyers, announcements for Campus Cruiser, etc. Create posters, bulletin boards, or other promotional materials for health education topics.

• Serve as a guest speaker for Nutrition or Health Education topics for classes, special events, health fairs.

General Graduate Assistant Tasks: (Do not have to be a Registered Dietitian to perform):

• Cover receptionist/administrative assistant duties when Dept. Secretary is unavailable or needs assistance (for example): answer phone, sign students in to see Wellness Center Staff, make appointments, collect payment, convey messages, do filing, locate medical records as necessary.

• Assist Wellness Center Staff with any tasks needed, such as:

1. Picking up or dropping off mail
2. Picking up or dropping off photocopying
3. Promoting and assisting with special events
4. Doing errands
5. Assisting with general office duties as needed.
