This program is designed for students who have a bachelors degree in fields outside of the sciences. Some students who majored in science, however, are accepted into the program to complete other appropriate science courses or to repeat courses taken more than 5 years ago (common MD program requirement).
Criteria for admission
- BS or BA from an accredited college or university
- Undergrad GPA of 3.0 or higher (or Undergrad/Grad GPA of, at least, 3.0)
- Statement of goals
- 2 Letters of recommendation
- Interview with Director
To maintain good academic standing and committee support you must earn a total GPA of at least 3.0. Failure to do so can result in dismissal from the program or lack of committee support.
Recent data from AAMC show that most accepted students to MD programs had a minimum science GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0, although GPAs ranged from 2.0 to 4.0. PA schools also have a similar range of accepted GPA scores but 3.2 - 3.5 seems to be the average. This indicates that other personal traits and experiences have some influence on acceptance to programs, but GPA is still a determining factor.
