Community Dollars - Frequently Asked Questions
What are Community Dollars?
Community Dollars is a convenient debit account right on your Sage ID card. Make a deposit into your Community Dollars account and you can swipe your card all over campus and at participating merchants to pay for the things you use everyday.
Where is my Community Dollars account? Do I need a separate card?
Community Dollars is an account located on your Sage ID card, which means no more digging into your spending money, late night stops at the ATM or charging up credit cards.
What is the difference between Community Dollars and Dining Dollars?
Community Dollars can be used at the bookstores, on campus dining locations, and select off-campus locations. (Community Dollars can not yet be used for printing, copying, laundry, or vending). Dining Dollars are tax free, and can only be used at the Sage dining locations: Kahl Café, Hazel’s Café, McKinstry Dining Room, Buchman Bistro & Kiosk.
How Do I Get Community Dollars?
You’ve already got it. The Community Dollars system is BUILT RIGHT INTO your existing Sage ID Card. It’s there, and ready to roll. If you have purchased a board meal plan, you already get community Dollars added every semester. If you do not have a plan already including Community Dollars, all you have to do is make a deposit (or get Mom and Dad to); then enjoy total freedom without spending your cash or charging up credit cards. Your Community Dollars account gives you the freedom to do what you want, when you want, on or off campus.
How Do Community Dollars Work?
Simple. Your Sage ID Card can be used like a debit card. The card gets swiped at the time of purchase at a participating location, the amount is deducted from your Community Dollars account and the balance is automatically adjusted. No more digging into your spending money, late night stops at the ATM or charging up credit cards.
Will I Lose Unused Community Dollars?
You’ve heard of rollover minutes? Your unused Community Dollars balance will roll over from semester to semester and year to year as long as you are an active member of the Sage community.
How do I add money to my Community Dollars account?
View the 'Add Money' page for details.
Where can Community Dollars be used off campus?
To see a full list of participating locations, click on the Participating Locations tab to the left of the page. We are always growing that list, so please let us know which of your favorite places we should add by emailing us at email@example.com.
What do I do if I lose my Sage ID Card?
The first thing you need to do is call Public Safety at 518-244-3177. Second, call Dining Services at 518-244-2377 (leave a message if it is after hours). Please leave your name and ID number in a slow, clear voice. We can check to see if your Sage ID Card has been turned in to us and if not, we will change your issue number so no one else will be able to use your card. This is especially important if you have Printing/Copying Dollars, Community Dollars, Meal Plans, and/or Dining Dollars. To replace your card, visit Public Safety; there is a replacement fee.
