In the RSC Writing Studio, undergraduate and graduate writing tutors assist writers from across the disciplines in all phases of the paper-writing process. In individual and group conferences, tutors respond to the needs of writers by providing them with reader responses and instruction which helps them to discover and implement an effective writing and editing process. The Writing Studio Graduate Assistant works with the Director of Academic Support and other staff in the delivery of Writing Studio services.


Prospective assistants should possess:

  • BA in English or a related field
  • An aptitude for instruction and working with a diversity of learners; previous experience as a Writing Tutor is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A willingness to serve as a mentor to all students, especially to those historically under-represented in the college setting


The Writing Studio Graduate Assistant helps cultivate a community of learners and contributes to a reflective and responsive writing center pedagogy by assisting the Director of Academic Support in performing the following duties:

  • Develop training and other instructional materials for writers and peer writing tutors
  • Develop and present workshops on writing and grammar skills, as well as informational sessions on Writing Studio services
  • Conduct help sessions and orientations for new students, faculty, and other learning support and campus associates
  • Tutor writing one-on-one
  • Work with other staff to provide comprehensive academic support services, including Coordinator of Disabilities, the Director and Asst. Director of HEOP
  • Maintain and generate Writing Studio databases and reports through SageAdvisor and Excel
  • Other administrative duties within the Writing Studio as assigned
