Athletic Trainer

Position:

The graduate assistantship (GA) position is a one year renewable appointment within the Department of Athletics. There is a $1,000 stipend and three credit hours per semester offering with a working requirement of 150 hours per semester beginning in the fall of 2017.

Qualifications:

A. Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine and be National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (NATA/BOC) certified.
B. Eligible for New York State Licensure
C. Must be currently enrolled in the Sage Graduate School academic program and in good academic standing.

General Responsibilities and Duties:

The graduate assistantship (GA) position will serve a primary role as a certified athletic trainer (ATC) to the Department of Athletics under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and the Athletic Training staff during the regular academic year of August to May. This will include: August pre-season; semester breaks; inter-cession; and spring break.

Specific Responsibilities:

A. Identify, manage, and rehabilitate athletic injuries for traditional and non-traditional season student-athletes (SA).
B. Provide on-site (on campus) coverage of athletic team practices and competitions as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer.
C. Provide off-site (off campus) coverage of athletic team practices and competitions as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer; off campus travel may be required.
D. Supervise the rehabilitation of athletic injuries, following appropriate protocols set forth by the team physician, and update the coaching staff of the SA’s status daily.
E. Initiate and maintain accurate medical history and records of all injuries and treatments rendered; including insurance documentation.
F. Refer to the Head ATC all cases which require advanced professional services.
G. Assist with the administration of all required pre-season physical examinations including base line concussion testing and documentation for all SA’s.
H. Assist athletic teams with specific training requirements such as stretching with dynamic warm-ups, cardio workouts, etc.
I. Assist with the daily operations of the Athletic Training rooms.
J. Follow the Sage Colleges Department of Athletics policies & procedures.
