The Opalka Gallery Graduate Assistant will help research exhibiting artists to develop educational materials for young gallery visitors. Writing and Research skills a plus. If there is a kid’s class being held in the gallery, the GA will typically assist the teacher. Also responsible for archiving, filing, proofreading and social media posts. At times, the grad assistant is responsible for the safety of art objects while on duty at the front desk of the gallery, and works with public safety to insure the gallery is opened and closed and secured at scheduled open gallery hours. The gallery assistant is informed about exhibitions, greets visitors, tracks information about the gallery environment and usage, and maintains a neat gallery. In between exhibitions, the assistant assists staff in de-installation and removal of artwork, repairing, painting and cleaning the gallery and installing artwork for exhibition.
