Revolution on the Runway

Bush Memorial Hall, Russell Sage College, Troy

In celebration and recognition of Women’s History Month, Russell Sage College (RSC) has planned events during March to explore women’s issues and to commemorate and honor the role of women.  The theme for 2012 is “Women’s Education - Women’s Empowerment.”   Reflections on women's issues is a perfect fit at Russell Sage College, a private college for women.  RSC is one of the only schools in the country to feature a curriculum grounded in women's experience where women gain a strong sense of their own power and potential, and become "women of influence" in their careers and their communities.

RCHS Fashion Show

The Helen M. Upton Center at Russell Sage College in collaboration with the Rensselaer County Historical Society (RCHS) are presenting a fashion show of clothing and accessories from the RCHS collections.  The Helen M. Upton Center was founded in 1990 to be the intellectual and community focus for Women's Studies and women's issues at Russell Sage College.

The event is part of a unique joint research project by Russell Sage students and the RCHS staff to explore trends in gender, fashion, and culture of the 19th and 20th centuries in the United States.

Ten examples form the RCHS collection, representing a 100 year time span, illustrate how the clothing we wear tells a story about ourselves and society.  Costumes will be presented in a runway-style event designed to educate and entertain.
