Film and Discussion: Newtown

April 25 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Newtown Poster

Rescheduled to April 25 due to weather

The Hoffman Lecture in Sociology and Social Policy presents a screening of “Newtown,” a 2016 documentary about the aftermath of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Karin Williams LaBanca, a 1994 graduate of Russell Sage College. In 2003, Karin and her family moved to Sandy Hook, CT. Her daughter Marguerite (Maggie) was best friends with 7-year-old Daniel Barden, her next door neighbor and one of the victims of the shooting. Maggie was in 3rd grade at the time, and was in the building on the day of the shooting.

Karin will discuss the importance of paying kindness forward in honor of Daniel and all the members of the Sandy Hook community.

The Hoffman Lecture in Sociology and Social Policy is sponsored by the Sociology Program, the Department of History and Society, and the Sage Colleges Libraries. It has been endowed by a gift from Linda Rosenfeld Hoffman, RSC ’62.
