Sarah Jaffe is an independent journalist who covers labor, economic justice, anti-racist struggles, politics, gender, and pop culture. Years of participating in and reporting on new social movements resulted in her acclaimed book Necessary Trouble: Americans in Revolt. The book, which is widely considered the best on the topic, is used in the Social Movements course at Sage.
Jaffe is a Nation Institute fellow, and her work has appeared in The Nation, Salon, The Week, The American Prospect, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and many other publications. She is the co-host, with Michelle Chen, of Dissent magazine’s Belabored podcast, as well as an editorial board member at Dissent and a columnist at New Labor Forum and New Republic.
WORLD is an acronym for Women Owning Responsibility for Learning and Doing, Russell Sage College’s general education program. The program hosts speakers on wide-ranging and complex topics. The talks are free, open to the public, and held in Bush Memorial Center at Russell Sage College.
