TROY, NY – The Esteves School of Education at The Sage Colleges is pleased to host the 5th Annual Help Yourself Academy Open House Extravaganza on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 4 to 5:00 p.m. The open house will take place in the Aggie on the Russell Sage College campus in Troy. The Aggie is located in the Robison Athletic Center (enter back of building through the courtyard entrance). A campus map is attached.

4th and 5th grade “scientists in training” will present a number of science experiments to highlight learning opportunities provided to students through the Help Yourself Academy.  The academy provides third-grade students an opportunity to learn science concepts in a college laboratory. The Help Yourself Academy is a collaboration between the Esteves School of Education and the Help Yourself Foundation and is designed to create an educational pipeline for minority and at risk students from the Troy school district into fields related to the health sciences.  This partnership provides an after school program and utilizes the foundation’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) curriculum, which was developed by National Board Certified Teachers and targets students in grades 3-8, with particular emphasis on science and mathematics.

Visuals: Science Stations include “Egg Drop, Cells, Microscopes,” “Squid, Sea Monsters, Characteristics of Life,” among other experiments. An awards ceremony will follow the science presentations.
