Panelists to Share Experience and Advice at Russell Sage College Event

A diverse panel of elected women will participate in a discussion titled “Women in Politics and Government: Election Year 2018 and Beyond,” on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 7 p.m. in Bush Memorial Center, Russell Sage College, 65 1st Street, Troy, N.Y. The event is sponsored by Russell Sage College’s senior capstone course, Women Changing the World.

The panelists include New York State Senator Kathleen Marchione; Assembly Member Patricia Fahy; Niskayuna Town Supervisor Yasmine Syed; and Albany City Councilwoman Dorsey Applyrs. Ruth Walters, whose extensive experience in New York state government includes service as a senior advisor to one governor, top aide to two assembly speakers and assistant comptroller, will moderate the panel.

“The panelists include two Republicans and two Democrats, two members of the state legislature and local officials from a suburb and a city. Two are veteran public servants and two are newcomers,” said Stephen Schechter, Ph.D., professor of History and Society, who teaches Women Changing the World. “They will share their perspectives on the driving forces behind the record number of women running for office in New York state this year, and suggest entry points for women who would like to run for office in the future”

The event is free and open to the public.
