Russell Sage College has named Andrea Rehn, Ph.D., as undergraduate dean and dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. She will join Sage in July. 

Rehn is currently academic associate dean and professor of English at Whittier College outside of Los Angeles, where she directs an individualized curriculum program and has secured nearly $1.5 million in grants to support digital literacy and curriculum initiatives. 

“The search committee was particularly impressed by Dr. Rehn’s commitment to engaged teaching and equity,” said Theresa Hand, provost of Russell Sage College. “We are thrilled that she’ll be joining us in this critical leadership role.”

“I am interested in education and social mobility and Russell Sage College is great at both,” said Rehn. “I’m excited to work with the Sage community to build on these strengths as we attract, support and graduate students who are savvy and ready for changing economic and career conditions.”

Rehn, who holds several teaching awards, taught at the University of Southampton in England and at Cornell University before she joined Whittier in 2007. Her professional interests include 19th-century literature, digital humanities, interdisciplinarity, commuter retention and individualized curricula.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s and doctorate in English Language and Literature from Cornell University.
