Research activity at Russell Sage College involves a multidisciplinary professional research community comprised of faculty, students, colleagues and community partners.
External Research Grants
The Associate Provost provides guidance and support to faculty members who are applying for external research grants and fellowships to fund their research and scholarly/creative activities. Listed below are some of the ways Russell Sage College can assist faculty who are seeking external funding.
- Secure the necessary approvals required for submission of some grants, including official signatures from other offices at Sage.
- Work collaboratively with sponsored research offices at other institutions for faculty who are collaborating with colleagues external to Sage.
- Give guidance on proposal budget design and preparation, including budget narratives.
- Submit proposals electronically to funding agencies.
Broughton Fellowship
Established in 1982 by William Broughton in honor of his parents, Henry and Jane Tinkham Broughton, the Broughton Graduate Fellowship in Creative Applied Science is given each year to recognize and award graduate students from the Schools of Education, Health Sciences and Management who demonstrate exceptional academic and research excellence.
Community Research
A Community Resource Team consists of faculty and students from more than one of the graduate programs, working with a community organization or agency to solve a problem, address a need or conduct necessary research.
Faculty Development Committee
The Faculty Development Committee (FDC) is comprised of faculty, elected by their peers, and part of the faculty governance structure. The committee shall develop strategies for the professional development of faculty as innovative and effective teachers and advisors; active contributors to their discipline and professions; and productive citizens of the academic community. The FDC sponsors professional development programs and showcases faculty scholarship.
Institutional Review Board
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee established by Russell Sage College to protect the rights of human subjects participating in research.
Louis & Hortense Rubin Community Fellows Program
Established in June 1990 with a gift from the Louis Rubin Family to Russell Sage College, the Louis & Hortense Rubin Community Fellows Program is a cooperative venture of Russell Sage College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Hudson Valley Community College, Emma Willard School and participating agencies of Rensselaer County. The program and fund is administered by Russell Sage College.
Kathleen A. Donnelly Center for Undergraduate Research
Named for Dr. Kathleen Donnelly, Professor Emerita Chemistry, DCUR aims to support the pursuits of undergraduate research at Russell Sage College in a variety of ways. Students are encouraged to use the center’s resources to assist in research on papers and presentations. Center staff are available to assist students with presentation skills, posters, technical support and publication and conference possibilities. The center oversees the college’s participation in the National Council on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). The DCUR is located in the basement of the Shea Learning Center on the Troy Campus.
