A team from Russell Sage College’s School of Management won first place in the Software and Services category of the annual New York Business Plan Competition for the Capital Region, held at Hudson Valley Community College on April 4, 2025.

Business majors Julia DeNitto, Vinnie Keough, Isabelle Malatesta, Sydney Moe, and Katherine Torres presented a business plan for an app called “Closet,” which allows users to curate AI-generated outfit ideas from items in their closet and interact with and inspire other users via a Closet community. There is a Free Model and a Pro Model, which is $9.99/month and provides unlimited outfit creations, trend forecasting, weather, and location integration.

Winning teams from the Capital Region competition advance to the New York State Business Plan Finals, which consists of three rounds; the winners of the final round on April 24 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute receive a cash prize.

Six teams from Sage’s Business Strategy II and Entrepreneurship classes participated in the Capital Region competition. In addition to Closet, students presented business plans for Hotel Insiders Club, Empire Elite Rental, College Pathway Prep, RetireMe, World in Sight, and FitHaven.
