About Jessica Juarez

Jessica Juarez became interested in working in higher education while she was an undergraduate at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. Her experiences as a resident assistant, student ambassador, and assistant in the student activities office inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at the University at Albany.

She worked in residence life at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences before joining Russell Sage College as assistant director of student activities in 2025.  She works with student leaders, the Student Life team, and colleagues across the college to plan a variety of events. Learn more about her in the Q&A below.

What appeals to you about working with college students?

Ever since attending my undergraduate institution, I’ve loved the environment of a college campus. Taking on student leadership roles during that time inspired me to pursue a career in higher education because it’s so rewarding to support students as they explore who they are and work toward their futures. I love the energy and enthusiasm that college students bring, and being part of a community that’s dedicated to growth and learning while also creating meaningful connections is so special to me.

Tell me more about your new role. What are you responsible for?

As the assistant director of student activities, I help create opportunities for students to connect with each other and get involved on campus. I work on planning events and activities that give students an outlet beyond classes to relax, have fun, and build community. My hope is to create a space where everyone feels welcome and represented.

What is your advice for students, about making the most of college life?

Get involved! This may sound biased coming from the Student Activities office, but simply trying something new, attending an event, or joining a club can completely transform your college experience. College is the perfect time to explore what you are passionate and meet people who share those interests. Getting involved on campus is one of the easiest ways to do that!

What interests do you have outside of work?

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and my dog, Nieva. I also enjoy playing video games, going on walks, and trying new things. I recently decided to take up baking, so I look forward to sharing some sweet treats!

Is there anything you would like to add?

I’m so excited to be a part of the Russell Sage community and I look forward to meeting everyone and working together to make campus life fun and memorable. Don’t hesitate to say hello if you see me around!
