About Mykha'el Wilson

Professor Wilson absolutely LOVES Accounting. He firmly believe it is students’ superpower. The practical application of Accounting and how it can be used in peoples personal and professional lives are one of his favorite parts of Accounting. He has lived in multiple states (Michigan, Iowa, California, and New York) and loves living in Troy! His hobbies include reading and writing. He loves walking around Troy and going on hikes in the surrounding area. His absolute favorite thing to do is to travel. Professor Wilson has been to every state in the United States and visited 13 countries. His most recent adventure was renting a camper van and driving around Scotland for a week. He did another camper van trip around Iceland. One of his favorite things about teaching is getting to know students and their interests and helping them create a successful path to achieve their life goals.

Research Interests
Professor Wilson is very interested in the topic of ethics, particularly as it relates to accounting. Accountants, and the firms they represent, should be upholding the law and stand firm in the ethical expectations of the industry. He is interested in the impact that unethical practices have on industry as a whole and what interventions can reduce unethical and illegal behavior by Accountants.

Professional Experience
Professor Wilson has worked in several industries and a common theme has been sales and management. He began his career at Insurance Auto Auction, a company specializing in auctions for totaled vehicles. From there, He moved to California and spent almost a decade working in DTC Wine sales, Managing Wine Clubs, and Wineries. In his early 30’s he moved to Upstate New York and went to school. He earned his degrees and became controller of a small company in Latham, NY. After a time there, he began teaching at SUNY Schenectady Community College. After teaching for 2.5 years, he became Dean of Business and Professional Programs where he led a fantastic team of Faculty covering Business, Accounting, Paralegal, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Development, Aviation, and Air Traffic Control Programs.
