Robert Martiniano, DrPH, MPA

Robert Martiniano, DrPH, MPA, is the Senior Program Manager at the Center for Health Workforce Studies, which he joined in 2001. Dr. Martiniano has an extensive background in health workforce research, survey and evaluation design, and project management. He is the lead staff on evaluating health workforce training programs; developing re-registration surveys, including analyzing RN and LPN data; analyzing health workforce recruitment and retention issues; and assessing RN production. Dr. Martiniano works with a number of large state and national data sets including: the American Community Survey; U.S. Decennial Census data; U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; Occupational Employment Survey statistics; Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS); New York State Medicaid data; New York State SPARCS data; New York State licensure data; and New York State Department of Labor QWEC data. For many years, Dr. Martiniano worked on developing shortage area designations throughout New York State and on providing technical assistance on these designations and on service obligated programs.

Dr. Martiniano holds a master’s in public administration, a master’s in public health, and a Doctorate in Public Health from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Dr. Martiniano’s dissertation topic was on the influence of physician density and selected physician characteristics on avoidable hospital readmissions. Dr. Martiniano is a current board member of the Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center and of the Health Workforce Collaborative and is involved on a number of community boards, including the Justice Center of Rensselaer County.
