Dr. Rebecca Stetzer, M.D., a neurologist from Albany Med Health System, will serve as the keynote speaker at “From Diagnosis to Daily Life: An Interprofessional Approach to Dementia” on Thursday, October 29, at 7 p.m. in Bush Memorial on the Russell Sage College Troy campus.
The two-hour event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. It will also be livestreamed on the college’s YouTube channel for those who can’t attend in person.
Attendees will learn:
- How different types of dementia can affect thinking, function, and everyday life.
- Strategies that support brain health and may reduce the risk of dementia.
- The challenges people with dementia and their families may face.
- How health professionals across disciplines work together to support meaningful, person-centered care.
Dr. Stetzer is a geriatrician with a particular interest in dementia care. She takes a “Geriatric 5Ms” approach to evaluation and treatment, looking at how the interplay of mobility, frailty, medications, psychiatric and medical comorbid conditions impact dementia care and how the presence of dementia affects the approach to other medical conditions. She works closely with the interdisciplinary team to focus on patient and care-partner priorities and goals of care.
Following Dr. Stetzer’s keynote, a panel of Speech-Language Pathologists will discuss their work with neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders.
The event is sponsored by the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at Russell Sage College with grant support from a Sparrell Fund. Contact Dr. Dave DeBonis for more information at debond@sage.edu.
