About Ethan Alcee

After earning an undergraduate degree in sociology and business at a nearby state university, Ethan Alcee joined Russell Sage College as an administrative assistant in the Nursing department.

That was an important step as he started his career as a non-clinical health care professional.

His next step is the master’s degree in Health Services Administration that he is pursuing at Sage’s School of Management.

Ethan says that balancing a full-time job and graduate school is easier than he expected.

He’s chosen Sage’s online HSA program, which is delivered in an asynchronous format — meaning that he is not required to be in a class meeting at the same time every week. He watches lectures, contributes to online discussions and completes other assignments on his own schedule — and still receives the same personal attention from professors for which Sage is known.

“They’ve all been very responsive,” he said. “This semester, I’ve been having trouble with one particular class, but the professor has been emailing back and forth with me on a regular basis, so it’s all been positive.”

Ethan is also a contributor and member of the editorial board for The Rev, one of Sage’s student-run creative journals.

“My graduate program is very data and business-oriented,” he said. “Having a creative outlet is refreshing.”

Once his master’s degree is complete, Ethan intends to pursue health-related opportunities in government, another step toward his ultimate goal: “Eventually, I do want to set up my own nonprofit dealing with health care,” he said.
