Three reasons to transfer to Sage today

National Transfer Student Week celebrates transfer students and the people who support them along the way. Andrea Rehn, undergraduate dean and dean of arts and sciences at Russell Sage College, has a particular connection to our transfer students – she once was one. She started her journey at a community college before transferring to a four-year institution.

Rehn was inspired to start at a community college all because of her mother. Her mom was not only the first member in her family to graduate from high school, but also the first to graduate with a college degree.

“I began attending college at the local community college, the same one my mother attended when I was in elementary school,” Rehn said. “I remember so clearly her pride at going to college. She changed so much, so quickly. She stood taller, she talked about different things, even what she cooked for dinner changed.”

Rehn later transferred to the University of California at Berkeley, where she received her B.A. in English before continuing to graduate school to pursue her master’s and Ph.D. at Cornell University in upstate New York.

“My mother’s education transformed not only her own life, but mine as well, and made me into a believer in the power and importance of higher education to benefit not only individuals but also their families and communities,” Rehn said.

We understand transferring to a new school can be scary, overwhelming, and exciting all at the same time. Here are three reasons to start your transfer journey at Sage:

  1. We help a lot of transfers through the transition, and we make it easy with a dedicated transfer admission counselor and technology like Transferology.
  2. Students can transfer up to 75 credits, so you won’t lose all the progress you’ve made.
  3. You can earn scholarships starting at $18,000 per year. That’s why we were ranked 15th among national universities for Social Mobility and 35th for Best Value by U.S. News & World Report this year.
